Yard Shunter Course
This course is for shunter operators just beginning their career or seeking upskilling in the Transport, Warehousing or Logistics sector.
Course Aim:
This course is for shunter operators just beginning their career or seeking upskilling in the Transport, Warehousing or Logistics sector. A shunter driver is responsible for manoeuvring vehicles around a yard into holding bays, storage areas and loading bays. Reversing is a high-risk activity in shunter operation due to the size of the vehicle. This course enables participants with the knowledge, skills, and attitude to enable them to pick up and move trailers to and from designated area in a safe manner.
Course Requirements:
All shunter drivers are required to hold a minimum of a Category B license. This training provides the qualification to operate a yard shunter in a safe and competent manner under the guidance of one of our RSA Approved Driving Instructors.

- Hydraulic Inspection
- Standard and emergency maintenance
- Electric Systems
- Understanding vehicle controls and vehicle checks procedures
- Coupling and uncoupling semi-trailers
- Accident Reporting
- Appropriate P.P.E
- Reversing, Loading, and unloading of trucks
Course Duration: One Day Course (If Articulated truck/yard shunter is used, drivers may need extra practice time to perfect reversing techniques, as this is a difficult skill to perform especially in tight spaces and is when other workers in vicinity of vehicles are most at risk of serious injury or Death due to crushing as the driver may not be able to see them in their mirrors)
Course Method:
The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based tutorials and practical training.
Training Location:
Jungheinrich Training Centre Cork or on Customer Site
Instruction and Certification:
All instruction and certification are conducted by accredited instructors who are qualified as such in their respective disciplines. Successful candidates will receive a Jungheinrich certificate after demonstrating their skills and knowledge.
